Travel Tip:
If you plan to visit several locations during the day, purchase an all day MTA pass for $7. It is good for subway and bus service. The pass is available at any subway station. Personnel at the ticket booths are friendly, and will give you a free map of the subway and bus system upon your request. Buses require exact fare, in coins, of $2.00 or a metro card. Walking in Manhattan:
* 20 uptown blocks equals one mile
* Manhattan is a little more than two miles wide
* Streets go East/West
* Avenues go North/South
* Central park is @ one square mile in area. (@ 600 acres)
- Chelsea to the Met: 3 1/2 miles
- SoHo to the Met: 4 1/2 miles
- Chelsea to SoHo: 2 miles

Taking a Cab:
If you are traveling in a group, a cab can be the quickest and a very economical way to move around Manhattan If you are running late to catch the bus home, pay for a cab. The maximum number of passengers allowed is 4 per cab. the rates are:
* upon entry...$2.50
* per 1/5 mile....$.40
* per 120 seconds idle time....$.40

The main subway services for ArtsBus travellers are the E and #6 trains:
*The E train serves SoHo,Chelsea, Mid-town and Queens
* The #6 train travels North/South on 5th, Park and Lexigton Aves. it serves Soho, Lower, Mid-town and Upper Manhattan.
*You may transfer between the E and the # 6 meet at Spring St/ Lafayette and Canal St/ Lafayette stations in SoHo and at the 51st St./53rd St and Lexington Ave.station at Mid-town.
* The E train also serves the Queens galleries and museums-
*The #7 train is useful aternative to the E train for travel to the Queens galleries and museums The #7 and the #6 meet at the Grand Central station at 42nd and Lexington.

By Bus:
* Madison Avenue is one-way, headed North (street numbers get bigger). 5th Avenue is
one -way, headed South (street numbers get smaller). You will need a subway card or $2.00 in coins ( buses do not take bills) to get on the bus.

DIRECTIONS:

TO
Chelsea
: The Chelsea district is between 29th and 19th Sts.( north/south), and10th and 11th Avenues ( east/west). Day-trip buses go directly to Chelsea for passenger drop-off.

- To Chelsea from SoHo: take the Uptown E trai n from the Spring St/Lafayette or the Canal St./Lafayette Stations and get off at the 23rd st/8th Ave. Station
- To Chelsea from Uptown: take the Downtown #6 train to the 51st/53rd Sts. and Lexington Ave. station and transfer to the E train. Get off at the 23rd and 8th Ave station.
- To Chelsea from 57th St: take the Downtown E train from the 53rd and Lexington Ave station and get off at the 23rd and 8th Ave. station.
- To Chelsea from Queens: take the Inbound/Downtown E train from 23rd and Ely station (also with an entrance at 44th andJackson, outside PS 1) and get off at the 23rd and 8th Ave. station.


TO
SoHoThe Soho district is bordered (north/south) by Houston and Canal Sts. and ( east/west) by Lafayette and Hudson- Day buses drop off Soho bound passengers at 7th Ave. and 23rd st. Take the F train at 23rd and 6th Ave and get off at the Broadway/Lafayette station.

- to SoHo from Chelsea, take the E train at 23rd and 8th Ave station and get off at either the Spring St/ Lafayette or Canal St/Lafayette stations
- to SoHo from uptown galleries: take the # 6 train at 59th, 63rd, 77th and 86th Sts and Lexington Ave. and get off at either the Spring St/Lafayette or the Canal St/Lafayette stations

TO
57th Street Galleries and Uptown Galleries and Museums - Buses drop passengers off at 57th St.and 5th Ave and travels Uptown to the Whitney and Met.
- To Uptown galleries from 57th St.
take the Madison Ave. bus, or get on the #6 train at 59th and Lexington.
- To 57th St. and Uptown from SoHo; take the #6 train from Spring St./Lafayette or Canal St./Lafayette and get off at the 59th St and Lexington Ave. station for the 57th St. Galleries, or travel further Uptown to 66th, 77th or 86th St.and Lexington stations.
- To 57th St. and Uptown from Chelsea; take the E train from 23rd St. and 8th Ave. Get off at the 53rd St. and 5th Ave. station for the 57th St. galleries, or transfer to the #6 train to travel Uptown

TO
Queens: Queens is across the river. Please leave Queens by 5:30 to return to the Metropolitan Museum for our 7:30 departure back to GMU
to PS1, Socrates, Noguchi Studio, Sculpture Center,from Mid-town
Use the E train from the following Manhattan stations:
-42nd and 8th
, if you are coming from Times Sq.
- Lexington and 53rd:- if you are coming from 57th St. galleries, or transfer from the # 6 train from Uptown galleries and Museums or Soho

- From Chelsea: 23rd and 8th ave
GET OFF the E train at the 23 St/Ely Ave.stop Exit onto 44th to Jackson Ave. Walk two blocks south on Jackson to 46th Av for PS 1

Use the #7 train from the following Manhattan stations:
- Broadway and 7th,
near ArtsBus' first stop
- Grand Cental Station/42nd and Lexington, as an optional transfer from the 6 train from Uptown or Soho. GET OFF the train at the Jackson/44th st station walk two blocks south on Jackson to 46th Ave for PS1

 IF YOU MISS THE BUS:
* If you slept late and missed getting on the bus at GMU on Saturday morning, sorry no refunds.
* If you had a family emergency and could not use your ticket, contact pwinant@gmu.edu. for an accommodation.You will be asked for some form of proof of the emergency.
* If you get separted from the bus at the rest stop in Delaware, call the emergency number given to you on the bus, AND inform the manager at the rest stop of your problem. He or she will get you on a bus headed in your direction.
* If you are late and miss the 7:30 departure from the Metropolitan Museum, go to the Port Authority at 40th St. and 8th Ave. and catch a bus to Washington. Please call the emergency phone number given to you on the bus to let us know you are alright.
